Reviews

"The best marriage preparation textbook I have seen, and I've looked at lots of them. There are concise essays on key areas of married life and the complete ritual of matrimony with Scripture texts taken from the widely used New American Bible. A great book to put in the hands of engaged couples." --Father Kenneth Myers in the Pittsburgh Catholic

"Partners in Life and Love includes a readily readable approach to an understanding of the theological and scriptural underpinnings of marriage, as well as the canonical requirements of this very special sacrament. It offers several options available for the wedding ceremony including a choice of readings and, among other things, explains what kinds of ceremonies can be held when a Catholic marries a non-Catholic." --John Burger in Catholic New York

"This handbook has two stated goals: to offer a brief overview of the Church's teachings on marriage and to act as a guideline for planning the wedding liturgy. Pastoral ministers may find it beneficial to give this booklet to the engaged couple on their first meeting with them. The section on Church teaching touches on Canon Law and on the Church's position on sexuality and birth control. The section on liturgy planning covers the selection of readings, the preferred format of the wedding vows, and devotional practices such as the lighting of a unity candle. This section also discusses the significance of sharing communion during the wedding liturgy. As in many books, the photos tell the story, from early glimpses of young couples 'in love' to the final image of an elderly couple -- the wife in a wheelchair being pushed by her husband. Both have expressions of peace and devotion on their faces. Whether you read the words or look at the pictures, you will get the same message: Marriage is a lifelong commitment, one that is worth the effort." --Marilyn Peters Krawczyk in Modern Liturgy
