This series of reflections on the Gospel passages used in the Sunday and Daily Masses of the liturgical year is an attempt to join the studying and the praying of the Scriptures into the kind of biblical spirituality which has become the foundation for the Church's proclamation and preaching of the good news during the 33 to 34 weeks of Ordinary Time. * Volume 1, Weeks 1-9, focuses on the Gospel of Mark;   * Volume 2, Weeks 10-21, concentrates on the Gospel of Matthew; and   * Volume 3 (pictured here), Weeks 22-34, is dedicated to the Gospel of Luke. Each book in the series includes: (1) A few short verses of Scripture taken from the Gospel of the day; (2) A reflection based on current biblical studies as they apply to one's growth in faith; (3) A question which can serve as a springboard for private meditation; and (4) A prayer which pulls it all together.

Father Mark G. Boyer, a priest of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese is on special assignment as the Editor of the Mirror, the official newspaper of the diocese with offices in Springfield, Missouri. He is the author of two other works published in recent years by Alba House:  Mystagogy and  Return to the Lord.

Reviews

"These three volumes written by Fr. Mark Boyer of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau diocese provide brief biblical commentaries on the Gospel readings for Ordinary Time. Boyer provides a sampling of the biblical selection, a succinct and thoughtful comment on the passage, and a concluding prayer to bring its spiritual message home. Those looking for inspiration for a daily homily or anyone wishing to pray in concert with the Church's liturgy will find this unadorned guide helpful." --Donald Senior, C.P.in The Bible Today July 1998

"Boyer's reflections are current, relevant, and helpful in understanding the Gospel story of the day. These three volumes are recommended to study groups as well as to individuals wishing to enrich the experience of hearing the Gospel message in daily life." -- Arnold Rzepecki in Catholic Library World, September 1998
