Holiness is the ultimate goal of each and every human life. We need not wait until we are in heaven -- that state of eternal bliss and joy -- before we can enjoy some of the fruits of a holy life lived in the love of God and neighbor. As Christians we believe that in Christ we can enjoy enlightenment, happiness and peace even now on earth in the midst of a life of suffering, trial and tribulation. In a world that thirsts and aches for meaning and purpose, the spiritual life provides the means for attaining this goal. This present work summarizes and explains the tried and true in Roman Catholic tradition in the areas of prayer and action. It is a blueprint in which everyday Catholics can find their way to the sanctity for which we should all aspire.

Fr. John J. Pasquini, author, teacher, lecturer, guest speaker and television spokesperson on issues of Catholic identity, morality and spirituality is a regular columnist for the Florida Catholic newspaper and is currently Associate Chaplain, Spiritual Director and writer on staff at Ave Maria University in Naples, Florida. He is the author of several works including, among others: Atheism and Salvation (University of America Press), Why Catholic? Reviews

In this book, Fr. Pasquini summarizes the traditional areas of prayer and spiritual development. By "Traditional" he is referring to basic tenets of our faith essentially outlined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Although there are chapters on active and passive purification of the senses and the soul leading to the spiritual life, a major portion of the book deals with "Fundamental Points." Grace, moral law, theological virtues, evangelical counsels, the beatitudes, conscience, original sin, the seven capital sins, prayers and sacraments are all treated.... Pasquini reiterates and redefines in traditional theological language these basic concepts of our faith.... The book is, therefore, not about spirituality in the usual sense but a reiteration of fundamental Catholic concepts. --Arnold Rzepecki, in Catholic Library World, Vol. 75 #4, June, 2005
