New American Bible. The King James Bible Commissioned by King James I of England the translation was carried out by scholars at Cambridge, Oxford and Westminster from 1604 to 1611. It relied on earlier translations of the Bible into English, including the 1582 Catholic translation at Rheims. They relied primarily, however, on the texts of the original languages available to them. Upon its publication it became the official translation of the Church in England and replaced an earlier Bishops Version. It has been hailed as a masterpiece of the English language and is so revered among Protestants that many consider it the definitive translation that should never be tampered with. Over the years, it has in fact been changed and streamlined. "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take, eat; this is my body.' And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, 'Drink ye all of it;
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom..'" New Materials If you have any questions about our site or the scriptures, U.S. Store
