From among the many journal entries written by Concepción Cabrera de Armida (Conchita), mother of nine and foundress of the Sisters of the Cross, the compiler of this selection offers us carefully chosen "mystical" writings about the Eucharist. Regarding the meaning of the word "mystic", the author refers us to Saint Thomas, for whom the essence of the word lies in the fact that when in a mystical state, one's reason is not only illuminated by faith, but one's soul is also driven to work under the impulse of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These writings are ordered chronologically, in order to follow Conchita's spiritual development and at the same time to display her spirituality and contribution to love for the Blessed Sacrament. This book, therefore, contains a good source of eucharistic spirituality for which so many are hungering today. |
The Servant of God, Concepción Cabrera de Armida, better known as
Conchita, was born in San Luis Potosi on December 8, 1862 and died
in Mexico, D.F. on March 3, 1937. Some 500,000 copies of her books were distributed anonymously
throughout Europe and America during her lifetime and today continue to inflame hearts in the
love of Jesus and the ardent desire to collaborate in the salvation of the world. Wife, mother
and lay apostle, the cause for her beatification is well under way today. Fr.
Juan Gutiérrez González, M.Sp.S., the compiler of this present volume, was appointed by his
congregation, the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit founded by Fr. Félix de Jesús Rougier in 1914
under the inspiration of Conchita, to study the theological aspects of the case for Concepción
Cabrera de Armida's beatification in Rome. The texts in this book have been taken from another
work written by this theologian, Concepción Cabrera de Armida, Cruz de Jesús, Vida Mística
e itinerario espiritual, San Luis Potosí (published by La Cruz de Jesús Maria), 1998. Other
popular works on the life and teachings of Conchita available from
Alba House include Conchita by M.M. Philipon, O.P. (1978) and I Am:
Eucharistic Meditations on the Gospel (2001).
